Geo- Carpathians – Creating a Polish-Ukrainian Tourist Route
The idea of creating a tourist route which follows magnificent geological objects from the Carpatian Mountains and Poland and Ukraine borderland came up many years ago. Due to the cooperation between Stanisław Pigon State Higher Vocational School in Krosno and Ivan Franko National University of Lviv a group of experts was established and they worked out the project concerning the creation of the tourist route
The project allows to create an innovative tourist product based on the principles of sustainable tourism and preservation the natural heritage of the region. Despite of the political and administrative barriers it allows to share ecological clean area which are not altered by man. The project creates new conditions of initiative’s development in undeveloped regions based on resources available locally. The project also allows for the integration of local communities on both sides of the border. It satisfies the need for the integration of academic communities in Poland and Ukraine. What is more, it favors the development of scientific disciplines such as geology and tourism. It gives opportunity to the people engaged in tourism leadership to develop their skills and widen knowledge. The project also provides opportunities to the existing and newly established companies managing the tourism to promote themselves for free.
The basis for the development of the cross-border cooperation between Poland and Ukraine will be „Geo-Carpathians” route, which runs through the territory of both countries. The trail will be initiate the development of cross-border tourism. The implementation of the project will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of tourism and geology between the students and employees of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and Stanisław Pigon State Higher Vocational School in Krosno. Thanks to the involvement of the representatives of the target groups from Poland and Ukraine it will be possible to widen the cross-border cooperation.
The Partners will benefit from the results of the project on both sides of the border on equal rules. The trail improves the attractiveness of Polish-Ukrainian borderland and motivates to mutual visits on both sides of the border.
The trail, especially the tourist information centers will become meeting places for Polish and Ukrainian students. Similar effects can be achieved in groups of people interested in geotourism. Successful accomplishment of the project may be the basis for initiating joint cross-border operations in the future.
